Lots of my clients comment on this mixed media artwork, that is on the wall in my office… a portrait of a hypothetical human I created in 2014.
I think it only catches their eye because most beginners avoid portraiture!
Do you think drawing a face is hard to do?
I think… it depends!…. If you’re creating a portrait (any image of a person) for a commission, to capture the true likeness of someone you know, or someone the public knows well (e.g. a famous person) then I’d say “YES” !! But if you’re creating a portrait of someone for your own/private self-expression, then I’d so “NO”, especially once you learn a few of the basics.
Art materials allow you to be so creative with portraiture. Unlike a photo, you can include so much more than just what the person looks like. In my upcoming Portraits workshop (on Saturday, May 18), I’ll be showing you how to draw the face in proportion as well as how to capture an idea of who that person is or how that person wants to be seen! Goddess, warrior, survivor, parent, leader, best friend…we all have multiple roles to play in our daily lives, therefore it’s liberating not to be afraid of using portraiture when we want to express our thoughts and feelings using art.
While this workshop aims to improve your artistic skills AND your ability to express your creativity, you’ll also discover that drawing portraits (using mixed media techniques) can also be a therapeutic and meditative activity. Portraiture is another way to learn how to focus on the present moment and to connect with the subject of your artwork on a deeper, more meaningful level.
Book now to grab one of the last 5 places, remembering that I offer a special rate for any adult who books a workshop with a family member aged 10 – 25 (because I know most teens and young adults don’t have any extra funds to spend on art classes).
I love teaching this session and I know you will love having a head start towards feeling confident with portraiture…so do not procrastinate and jump onto my website to enrol now! I promise you, no one will be left behind (or held back) as I guide you step-by-step through my unique process! #portraitsclass #mixedmediaartworkshop
